Why do they resist sterilizing criminals, and people who do not want children?

Unfortunately, our Constitution protects the reproduction of others, so we cannot sterilize criminals. More unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to get a physician to sterilize you. It took me 10 years of hell before I was given a hysterectomy. My insurance would have paid the first year due to all the problems I had and the fact that I do not want children, ever. But physicians refused due to malpractice liability, and one even told me "You'll change your mind and do your duty as a good christian woman." Seriously, that was actually said to me. The religious right seems to think that women absolutely have to have children to be worth anything at all. That's the impression I got during my ten years of hell. If more people could get sterilized, they would voluntarily do it and a lot of children wouldn't be born who will only suffer.
