Could crawling through a storm drainage tunnel be charged as criminal tresp?

Me and my friends got bored so we opened up a manhole cover to a storm drainage tunnel and were crawling through it to see where it goes... then a neighbor called the cops and were all getting charged with criminal tresping! Can we seriously be charged with that?
