Need help with my 94 isuzu rodeo?

My 94 wont start up without jumping it. The lights or anything wouldnt turn on and ofcourse the engine doesnt even start. I put the keys into the ignition and nothing happens..........at all. What wrong? o0o and how do you open the damn tail gate?
